Statement on Mayor Mamdani’s Meeting with President Trump about Sunnyside Yards

Our statement from Carlo A. Scissura, Esq., President and CEO of the New York Building Congress, on Mayor Mamdani's Historic Proposal to Advance Federal Investment in Affordable Housing at Sunnyside Yard:

"As a member of Mayor deBlasio's Sunnyside Yards task force, it has always stuck in my craw that all that work ultimately went nowhere. So I was over the moon to see it was the subject of discussion today between Mayor Mamdani and the President.

We must finally bring this dream project to life! 12,000 new affordable homes, 6,000 new Mitchell-Lama-style homes, 30,000 good-paying union jobs, parks, schools, health care clinics, new transit… the largest housing development project in the city in 50 years, right in the crossroads of Queens and minutes from Manhattan, knitting communities together. The kind of mass production we need to truly put out housing crisis in the past. our members stand ready to take it from concept to reality. The President must see the impact this will have on his home city and secure the federal funding needed to make the work of that task force years ago bear fruit and build our city upward!"
