Join us at a virtual public workshop on May 1 to learn about and share your thoughts on how the City can add housing while also encouraging merchant activities that support residents along three corridors: North Shattuck, College Avenue, and Solano Avenue.

Those who live or work in these general areas can discuss their experiences and concerns to help inform City staff on approaches to achieve the housing and aligned merchant goals.

City staff will use the workshop to provide an overview of the project and make time for small group discussions. These conversations will help inform the creation of "objective development standards" - a set of consistent City rules to simplify how housing can be built.

Come join us on May 1 to learn about and help shape development along these corridors.

start of years-long process to update zoning for these corridors

The May 1 workshop for residents, merchants, and other stakeholders in these areas will be the first of several led by City staff over the next year to update the zoning on these corridors.

The corridors update is one piece of the Housing Element - the state-mandated and City Council-approved housing plan for Berkeley through 2031.

Using public outreach to inform new zoning standards, the project team will develop these new standards for consideration by the Planning Commission. Those standards would then be brought for review and adoption by the Berkeley City Council in 2026.

For more information about the Corridors Zoning Project, visit the project web page, check out the Corridors Fact Sheet, sign up for email updates, or send your questions to the project team at corridors@berkeleyca.gov.

For those interested in learning more or helping shape the development of housing and merchant activity that would increase the livability of these corridors, come join us online or by phone on May 1.
