$1.7 Billion Investment Under Governor's Economic Growth Strategy Breaks Ground
Groundbreaking at Lam Research in Tualatin signals strength in state's strategic efforts

Salem, OR - Today, Governor Tina Kotek and Lam Research, one of the world's leading suppliers of semiconductor manufacturing equipment and services, announced that the company is breaking ground on its Tualatin facility expansion.

"Today's groundbreaking signals strength in Oregon's economic future," Governor Kotek said. "This expansion will create more high-quality jobs, strengthen the state's world-class research and development ecosystem, and help ensure Oregon and the United States continue to lead in semiconductor innovation for decades to come."

Once completed, the expansion is expected to represent the company's biggest investment in Oregon to date, creating more than 400 direct, high-wage jobs at Lam and supporting thousands of indirect jobs. The expansion will strengthen regional economic growth and bolster Oregon's established and growing advanced manufacturing industry. In 2024, Lam Research received $22 million in funding from the Oregon CHIPS Act to support the construction of this expansion. The state's Strategic Investment Program was also critical to secure a portion of this significant expansion, which is in the final stages of state approval with the Oregon Business Development Commission.

Governor Kotek has championed Oregon's semiconductor industry since the beginning of her administration. In 2023, she signed the Oregon CHIPS Act to help semiconductor companies expand in Oregon, established the Semiconductor Talent Sustaining Fund in 2024 to create more workforce training opportunities, and created the CHIPS Child Care Fund to support childcare for families working in the semiconductor supply chain. These efforts have helped sustain Oregon's position as a global leader in semiconductor research and development and manufacturing. This announcement follows Oregon successfully securing up to $160 million in federal funding in July to support continued growth of the state's semiconductor ecosystem.

Oregon's computer and electronic products sector is a powerhouse of high-wage employment, supporting roughly 61,000 jobs statewide. This sector plays a critical role in driving Oregon's economic competitiveness with an average annual wage nearing $169,000. The sector is also a critical contributor to Oregon's trade landscape with exports to foreign markets exceeding $10 billion in 2025, accounting for nearly 40% of Oregon's exports.

This expansion marks continued progress on the Governor's Prosperity Roadmap, unveiled in December 2025 to achieve three broad goals: retain and grow Oregon businesses, catalyze job creation, and accelerate Oregon's economic growth. Since launching the strategy, Governor Kotek has passed legislation to catalyze business growth, established the Prosperity Council to advise on long-term economic strategies, launched a global trade desk to support businesses looking to grow in Oregon, and personally traveled across the country to recruit and retain businesses.
