Every year, West Jordan creates a plan for how the city will earn and spend money. This plan is called the city budget, and it helps make sure we can keep everything-from parks to police-running smoothly.
How the Budget Comes Together
From January through May, the Mayor meets with each city department to talk through their needs for the upcoming year. Streets, parks, public safety, finance, etc. Every department explains what they need to operate well, what new projects should be funded, and what challenges they expect in the year ahead.
Once that information is gathered, a draft budget is created. That draft then goes to the City Council, who spend several weeks reviewing it, asking questions, and deciding what should take priority based on community needs and long-term financial responsibility. It's a balancing act: what the city needs, what the community wants, and what is fiscally wise.
When the Budget Becomes Official
The City Council must approve and adopt the budget by the end of June.
A Look Ahead: FY 2027
The FY 2027 tentative budget includes a proposed 2.26% tax rate increase. Details are available in the Property Tax Impact Schedule. Full budget documents are posted on the city's budget page. Residents can share feedback during public hearings held at City Council meetings on June 9, June 23, and August 11.
