Cedars-Sinai to Host 4th Annual Black Men in White Coats Youth Summit

WHAT

Cedars-Sinai and Black Men in White Coats will welcome more than 1,000 middle and high school students to a hands-on youth summit at the Los Angeles Convention Center, designed to spark interest in healthcare careers.

At the 4^th annual summit, students will participate in hands-on learning stations on trauma care, surgical techniques, artificial intelligence, medical imaging, respiratory therapy and biomedical research. The summit provides exposure, representation and access for students who may not otherwise see themselves reflected in the healthcare workforce.

"Representation is powerful," said Nicole Mitchell, chief diversity and inclusion officer at Cedars-Sinai. "When students meet and talk with physicians and healthcare leaders who reflect their communities, it expands their sense of what's achievable. This summit is about building confidence, creating connections and helping students envision themselves in these vital roles."

In addition to Mitchell, Dale Okorodudu, MD , the founder of Black Men in White Coats will be the keynote speaker and Reggie Scott, MS, ATC, PES , senior vice president of sports medicine and performance for the Los Angeles Rams will also be attending the Summit.

Students attending the event will engage with physicians, academic leaders and industry professionals across a range of specialties, gaining insight into educational and career pathways, and leadership opportunities in medicine.

"I feel like the medical field is really underrepresented in my community," said Brandon Parrott, a University of La Verne student and past event participant. "When I go to the hospital, I don't see many Black doctors or nurses. I think it's important that we start filling those roles-to help future patients feel seen, understood and comfortable."
