Avera McKennan Campus Entry Route Will Change Temporarily to Accommodate Construction

As part of the construction of the Women's and Children's expansion at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center in Sioux Falls, a portion of the drive to the main entrance will be closed Dec. 15 - 20, changing traffic flow to the main entrance.

Drivers approaching the Avera McKennan campus main entrance via Cliff Avenue should turn west onto 23rd Street, just south of the Prairie Center, and then follow the detour signs to the main hospital entrance. Patients will still be able to use valet parking when they pull up to the main hospital entrance via the detour route.

The closure will be midway along the entry drive in the vicinity of Plaza 1. People going to Plazas 1 and 2 can continue to use the 21st Street entry from Cliff Avenue to access the parking lots for those buildings, and valet parking will still be available there.

If patients or visitors do approach the 21st Street closure, security and valet staff will be present and signs will be posted to direct traffic. There will be no impact to parking at Plazas 1 and 2.

The entry drive closure will make way for a crane that will place materials for the project. Regular traffic to the main entrance will resume after Dec. 20.

"We understand that this closure will result in some minor inconvenience for people arriving at Avera McKennan; we hope the measures we have taken with signage and staff to direct traffic will help minimize any confusion so our patients and guests can continue to easily navigate our campus," said Julie Ward, Vice President for Administrative Services at Avera McKennan.

Anyone with questions or concerns can call the hospital at 605-322-8000 for information. Go to the Avera McKennan webpage at Avera.org/McKennan to find maps, parking locations and construction updates.
