The University of Toledo Department of Art will present a free, public exhibition featuring the works of a visiting assistant professor beginning Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Sorrel Stone is a figurative sculptor who began teaching courses in ceramics in the fall semester. Their exhibition, titled "Ghostmaking," encompasses three of their nearly life-size earthenware clay works that inspire reflections on identity.
'The Wedding Quilt' is one of three works featured in the exhibition 'Ghostmaking,' opening at the Center for the Visual Arts Main Gallery on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
"'Ghostmaking' challenges viewers to reflect critically on the intersection of identity, representation and the enduring effects of colonialism," Stone said. "Through its fusion of figurative sculpture and historical craft, the exhibition invites us to examine our relationship to the spaces we inhabit, raising the question: How do we create modern accountability for our histories?"
"Ghostmaking" will remain on display in the Center for the Visual Arts' Main Gallery through Saturday, Feb. 16. The Center for the Visual Arts is located adjacent to the Toledo Museum of Art at 620 Art Museum Dr., Toledo. Exhibit parking is free in Lot 3.
A free, public reception is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14.

Stone's work has been exhibited across North America, including the high-profile art show Miami Art Basel. They hold a master of fine arts degree in studio art from Syracuse University and a bachelor of fine arts degree in ceramics from the Maryland Institute College of Art.
