Introductory remarks by Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan at the enlarged format meeting with Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov
Dear Mr. Lavrov,
Dear colleagues,
I am very glad for this meeting. I believe my visit is quite timely given the dynamics of our bilateral relations. The last time we met in this format was in July 2023, and I think this visit provides a good opportunity to discuss issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as to engage in a thorough exchange of views on a number of relevant topics on regional and international agenda.
Colleagues, I and Mr. Lavrov have already briefly touched upon several issues in a tête-à-tête format, and now we can continue the exchange of views with the participation of the delegations.
I would like to express the interest of the Republic of Armenia in continuing the effective political dialogue aimed at discussing issues affecting our bilateral relations and the regional situation as a whole.
Armenia has always adhered to the principle of open and constructive dialogue, and we hope that the Russian side will continue to consider all aspects of the situation, avoiding one-sided interpretations, which, unfortunately, we have seen recently, in the past few days. I also hope that our meeting today will contribute to mutual understanding.
Another important indicator in bilateral relations is, of course, cooperation on international platforms. We always try to approach the interests of the Russian Federation with understanding. There is a desire and understanding that the Russian side will, to some extent, take into account the interests of the Republic of Armenia on international platforms. Cooperation on international platforms is part of our traditions, and we would like to continue this tradition.
Dear Mr. Lavrov,
We also aim to develop relationships based on mutually beneficial and practical cooperation, as well as respect for sovereignty, which, most importantly, I firmly believe, aligns with the interests of our two states.
An important component of our cooperation and partnership is, of course, the economy, where we see a sustainable positive effect that has a beneficial impact on the development of trade relations.
My visit today is also part of our efforts to develop cooperation in formats such as the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, the Interparliamentary Commission, and other important platforms. This also applies to economic interaction within the framework of the EAEU, where Armenia, in December, I believe quite successfully, completed its chairmanship.
In the context of Armenia's strong commitment to enhancing the economic attractiveness of the South Caucasus, I am pleased to reaffirm Armenia's vision for unblocking all regional economic and transport infrastructures, the implementation of which is envisioned within the framework of the "Crossroads of Peace" project.
I am pleased to highlight the positive momentum in the development of the Armenian-Russian dialogue in the humanitarian direction. Meetings of scientists and cultural figures are held on a regular basis.
In a word, I agree with you - the range of topics is indeed very broad and multifaceted.
Thank you once again for your attention.
