Transparency International's Boardof Directorsis pleasedto announce the appointmentof Maíra Martinias Chief Executive Officerof Transparency International (TI). She will run the International Secretariat, basedin Berlin, Germany, and contributeto the movement's leadership. She will start her new roleon 1 February.
Martini has been with the Transparency International Secretariat since2011. Most recently, she has servedas Headof Policy& Advocacy, where her leadership has been pivotalin shaping the strategic directionof the organisation. She has led Transparency Internationalon effortsin anti-money laundering, beneficial ownership transparency and combating illicit financial flows. Martiniis a lawyer witha Master's degreein Public Policy from the Hertie Schoolof Governancein Berlin.
"I am deeply honouredto takeon the roleof CEOat Transparency International," said Martini. "As the world faces significant challenges- polarised governments, undue influence and the captureof policies aimedat addressing critical issues suchas inequality, environmental degradation and the climate crisis- corruption often liesat the heartof these problems.It weakens democratic institutions, undermines accountability and diverts the resources needed for meaningful solutions.As the leading anti-corruption organisation,it is our responsibilityto stepup and confront these systemic issues head-on."
Beyond her workat Transparency International, Martini has authored numerous reports and analyseson anti-corruption and good governance and servedon the steering groupsof OpenOwnership, and the Anti-Corruption Data Collective. Her achievements were recognisedin 2022 when she received the TI's Amalia Award for Professional Excellence.
