CONE ZONE ALERT: Citywide Traffic Signal Hardware Upgrades at 49 Intersections

The City of Cathedral City's Public Works Department has announced a major citywide project to upgrade traffic signal hardware at 49 intersections throughout the city.

Starting Monday, March 2, 2026, Econolite Systems, Inc. will begin constructing the HSIP 11C - Citywide Traffic Signal Hardware Upgrades at 49 Intersections Project. The improvements include installation of LED safety lighting, traffic signal backplates, and traffic signal heads with retroreflective borders.

Construction Sequence

Construction will begin at the intersection of Vista Chino and Date Palm Drive and proceed south along the Date Palm Drive corridor before continuing to other intersections citywide. Affected corridors include:

  • Date Palm Drive Corridor
  • Vista Chino Corridor
  • East Ramon Road Corridor
  • Dinah Shore Drive Corridor
  • Cathedral Canyon Drive Corridor
  • East Palm Canyon Drive Corridor
  • Varner Road Corridor
  • Landau Boulevard & 30th Avenue
  • Palm Drive & Paul Road
  • Gerald Ford Drive & Plumley Road/Avenida Del Sol

What to Expect

Drivers should expect intermittent lane closures and traffic delays at various intersections throughout the project. Temporary traffic control measures will be in place. At times, traffic signals may be placed in flashing red mode during equipment installation - drivers should treat flashing red signals as a four-way stop.

Construction activities will take place Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Construction is anticipated to be completed by Summer 2026.

The City of Cathedral City and Econolite Systems, Inc. will do our best not to inconvenience residents and normal business operations. The City appreciates your cooperation and patience during the construction of this project.
