Grady County...
Lake Douglas Road closing for bridge replacement
What: A Georgia Department of Transportation contractor plans to close Lake Douglas Road at Swamp Creek to through traffic to replace the bridge built in 1955. It is functionally obsolete and requires a posted weight limit. Non-local/through traffic will be directed to follow a detour that will be marked with signs. Local traffic and emergency service vehicles will be able to access other local roads as an unofficial detour. Implementing an off-site detour for through traffic helps reduce the cost of the project and shortens the construction time. The construction contract is approximately $1.8 million.

Where: Lake Douglas Road at Swamp Creek in Grady County. Non-local/through traffic will be directed to use Old 179 South, Tired Creek Road and Jones Road.

When: The bridge is currently scheduled to close to non-local/through traffic July 13, subject to change. The road may be closed for a maximum of 150 days.
