Closures on Farrington Highway to add left-turn signal onto Leihōkū Street
Posted on Sep 15, 2026 in Highways News, Main, NewsHONOLULU - The Hawai'i Department of Transportation (HDOT) will be closing lanes to add a protected left-turn signal from Farrington Highway eastbound onto Leihōkū Street. The work will include removal of existing traffic signal equipment and installation of new traffic signal heads, loop detectors and signage. Work hours and closures will be:
Wednesday, Sept. 16, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Single lane closures in the Honolulu-bound direction at the intersection. The lane to be closed will vary but only one lane will be closed at a time.
Thursday, Sept. 17 and Friday, Sept. 18, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The single Honolulu-bound lane closures will continue and the left-turn lane from Farrington Highway onto Leihōkū will be closed. Drivers are advised to make a left-turn at Lualualei Homestead Road and use side streets to connect back to Leihōkū.
HDOT is installing the new protected left-turn onto Leihōkū Street to reduce conflicts between left-turning vehicles, vehicles heading toward Mākaha, pedestrians and cyclists. Leihōkū Street is heavily used by pedestrians due to the nearby Wai'anae Transit Center.
