All full-time students of the University of Tartu, the University of Latvia and Vilnius University may apply for the 2,000-euro scholarship if their proficiency in one of the Baltic countries' languages is at least at C1 level and in the other two languages at least at A2 level. Visiting international students who study at one of the three universities in both semesters of this academic year may also apply.
The aim of the scholarship competition is to promote the teaching and studying of the Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian languages and cultures. The universities take turns to award the scholarship. In the 2025/2026 academic year, it is awarded by Vilnius University. The competition consists of three rounds: the local written round, the local oral round and the final round.
To apply, each participant must submit three essays on the given topics: one in Estonian, one in Latvian and one in Lithuanian. Further information about the competition schedule and content (including essay topics and dates of the rounds) is available on the Three Rectors' Scholarship webpage.
The essays must be sent by 31 January 2026 by email to [email protected], with the subject line "Kolme rektori stipendium". Participants advancing to the oral round are selected based on their results in the written round. Three top students from each university will participate in the final round held at Vilnius University. Their travel and accommodation costs will be covered.
