Outcome of Korea-Iran Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Conversation (September 19)

1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun held a telephone conversation with Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araghchi on September 18, which also served as a courtesy exchange marking Minister Cho's inauguration.

2. Minister Araghchi congratulated Minister Cho on his assumption of office and assessed that Iran and Korea have maintained their amicable relations. Minister Cho, sharing Minister Araghchi's view on the bilateral relations, proposed maintaining close communication between the two sides.

3. In addition, the two Ministers exchanged views on the scheduled voting in the UN Security Council regarding the reinstatement of sanctions on Iran. Minister Cho explained that Korea, as the President of the Council for the month of September, has remained faithful to the process under the relevant Security Council resolution. Furthermore, Minister Cho expressed his hope that all relevant parties would sustain their diplomatic efforts toward a peaceful settlement through dialogue and negotiation, stressing that the window for diplomacy will remain open even after the vote.

4. The two Ministers agreed to explore the possibility of holding a bilateral meeting in New York during the High-level Week of the 2025 UN General Assembly session with the aim to discuss bilateral relations and other issues of mutual interest.
