Major events and tourism package to boost economic activity

The Government has announced a new Major Events and Tourism package to boost economic activity and confidence.

The package is designed to support the tourism and hospitality sector in New Zealand in the short-term, creating jobs and economic benefits for local businesses and communities.

The package includes:

  • $40 million Events Attraction Package to secure large-scale international events from 2026.
  • $10 million Events Boost Fund to support existing events and attract international opportunities for events delivered during 2026.
  • $10 million Regional Tourism Boost marketing campaign to attract international visitors to travel, stay and dine in New Zealand from early 2026.
  • $10 million for tourism and events infrastructure upgrades.

The full package will be rolled out over the next 2 years, with announcements on events and infrastructure projects expected by the end of the year.
