OAS General Secretariat Launches Artificial Intelligence Task Force

The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) today launched a new Artificial Intelligence Task Force to promote the responsible use of AI across the Organization and strengthen its capacity to serve member states.

The initiative, to be led by the Office of the Executive Director, will coordinate the adoption of AI across the OAS, helping to modernize operations, improve efficiency, and support innovation while ensuring appropriate governance and safeguards.

The Secretary General of the OAS, Albert R. Ramdin, emphasized the strategic importance of the initiative: "For the OAS, this must be approached as an institutional priority, not as a technology trend and not as a collection of isolated experiments."

The Task Force will bring together representatives from across the Organization to identify opportunities for AI implementation and ensure that its use aligns with the OAS mission and institutional priorities.

The OAS Executive Director, Michael Bogachek, highlighted the practical benefits of artificial intelligence specifically for the OAS: "AI can help us reduce repetitive work, improve access to information, strengthen analysis, support internal operations, and modernize the way we work."

During its first phase, the Task Force will assess current AI use across the OAS, identify pilot projects, establish governance frameworks and safeguards, and develop training programs to support responsible AI adoption.

The initiative reflects the OAS General Secretariat's commitment to modernization, innovation, and the responsible use of emerging technologies to better serve the peoples of the Americas.
