Permanent Secretary (Defence) Mr Joseph Leong co-chaired the 17th Singapore-Vietnam Defence Policy Dialogue (DPD) with Vietnam Deputy Minister of National Defence Senior Lieutenant General (SLG) Nguyen Truong Thang at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) this afternoon. SLG Thang, who is in Singapore from 16 to 18 September 2026, also called on Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing.
At the DPD, Mr Leong and SLG Thang reaffirmed the warm and friendly bilateral defence relations as well as their commitment to enhance bilateral defence cooperation between Singapore and Vietnam. Both sides exchanged views on geopolitical developments and discussed ways to strengthen defence relations between our countries. Mr Leong also shared Singapore's priorities for its 2027 ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) Chairmanship, and both sides discussed cooperation under the ADMM and ADMM-Plus. SLG Thang expressed Vietnam's support for Singapore's 2027 ADMM and ADMM-Plus Chairmanship and priorities.
As part of his visit, SLG Thang visited the Information Fusion Centre and ADMM Cybersecurity and Information Centre of Excellence.
