Glendale Community Services & Parks Recognized with California Park & Recreation Society (CPRS) 2025 Award of Excellence in Park Planning

Glendale, CA - The California Park & Recreation Society (CPRS) has recognized Glendale's Community Services & Parks (CSP) Department with the 2025 Award of Excellence in Park Planning for the Fremont Park Renovation Project. This honor celebrates outstanding planning and design of outdoor park and recreation spaces that prioritize community engagement, aesthetic quality, long-term functionality, and accessible design.

From the project's inception in 2015, community voices played an essential role in shaping the park's vision. The input that CSP received guided the transformation of Fremont Park, bringing much-needed recreation amenities to South Glendale, an area historically identified as park-deficient.

This 7.9-acre neighborhood park is now a vibrant, multifunctional, health-forward destination that reflects the identity and needs of the surrounding community. The renovation delivers a balanced mix of active recreation, shaded gathering areas, accessibility improvements, and environmentally sustainable features.

New key amenities include a community building, two age-specific playgrounds with sensory elements, a water-recirculating splash pad, eight new or upgraded tennis courts, a dual basketball/pickleball court, a multi-use field, a bocce ball court, an outdoor fitness zone, and a central bioswale for stormwater capture. Visitors can also enjoy refreshed landscaping, walking paths, shaded picnic shelters, and a rose garden.

The CPRS Award of Excellence highlights Fremont Park as a leading example for how innovative design, sustainable solutions, and community-driven planning can elevate neighborhood parks to better serve residents of all ages and abilities. Since its Grand Re-Opening on October 11, 2025, Fremont Park has experienced renewed enthusiasm and daily activity, standing as a model for how thoughtful engagement and high-quality design can create a thriving, resilient community asset.
