WVU Alert issued following reported gas leak on Campus Drive near Downtown area of Morgantown Campus

West Virginia University issued a WVU Alert following a reported gas leak Tuesday (Jan. 7) along Campus Drive near the Downtown area of campus.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Life Sciences Buildingwas closed until further notice after University Policecleared and secured the building.

"We are asking members of the University community to avoid the area until the situation is addressed," Chief Sherry St. Clairsaid. "Since spring semester classes don't begin until Monday (Jan. 13), the number of students, faculty and staff members in that area is already limited."

Crews with Hope Gas were working to address the leak on Tuesday evening (Jan. 7). That work was expected to continue into Tuesday night.

Additional updates on the gas leak itself will come from Monongalia County Emergency Management and members of the University community should monitor the M.E.C.C.A. 911 Facebook pagefor the latest information.
