The Rock Valley College Center for Learning in Retirement (CLR) invites community members to discover the joys of lifelong learning at its Fall Kick-Off & Annual Meeting on Wednesday, August 12, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Bengt Sjostrom (Starlight) Theatre on the Rock Valley College Main Campus.

CLR members can participate in day trips, social gatherings, and special interest groups throughout the year.

The free event is open to the public and offers an opportunity to learn about CLR's extensive lineup of educational, cultural, and social opportunities for Fall 2026. Attendees will be the first to receive the new Fall 2026 Catalog and enjoy early registration for any of the 155 fall classes.

"This annual event is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the many ways this lifelong learning program enriches our community," said Tammy Lewis, Program Director for the Center for Learning in Retirement. "Whether you're looking to explore a new hobby, connect with others who share your interests, or continue learning in retirement, CLR offers something for everyone. We invite the community to join us and see what makes this program so special."

During the event, guests will have the opportunity to learn about volunteer possibilities, hear about new programs and events planned for the fall semester, and enjoy refreshments and live musical entertainment by talented performer Tom Stanfield, who will sing and perform on keyboard and trumpet.

The Center for Learning in Retirement offers short-term, non-credit courses on a wide range of topics, including art, history, science, technology, health and wellness, literature, current events, and special interests. Members can choose from in-person, online, and hybrid classes, as well as participate in day trips, social gatherings, and special interest groups throughout the year.

Classes are primarily held at the RVC Bell School Road Center in Rockford, with select courses available online through Zoom, providing flexible learning opportunities for members. Membership in CLR provides those age 50+ access to over 350 classes annually and at discounted rates on educational trips, and social events.

The Fall Kick-Off & Annual Meeting will be held at the Bengt Sjostrom (Starlight) Theatre on the Rock Valley College Main Campus. Convenient parking is available in Lot 1 off Mulford Road, and golf cart transportation will be provided to the theatre entrance. No reservations required!
