COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Department of Commerce Division of State Fire Marshal's (SFM's) Ohio Fire Academy celebrated the graduation of its EMT class 140 earlier today at a ceremony held at the Division's campus in Reynoldsburg. The 17 graduates represent communities throughout Ohio and Indiana. A complete list of graduates and their hometowns is available for download at OFA_EMT_October_2026_Graduation_4.pdf
These graduates successfully completed the Academy's rigorous seven-week, 166-hour training program, showcasing dedication and determination to join the ranks of Ohio's EMTs. This marks the Academy's fourth graduating class of 2026. After today's ceremony, 75 individuals have graduated from four EMT classes held at the academy this year.
"Today's graduates have shown exceptional perseverance and professionalism throughout their journey," said State Fire Marshal Kevin Reardon. "The skills they've developed speak to their unwavering commitment to protecting and supporting the people in the communities they serve. We are proud of all they have accomplished, and we are confident they will make a meaningful difference as they begin their service as EMTs both here at home and across the nation."
These 17 graduates will now join the ranks of first responders in their communities, equipped with the qualifications they need to help protect Ohioans.
Anthony Bontempo from Tallmadge, Ohio said he is ready to use his training to help his community.
"The training we all received was excellent. We gained valuable hands-on experience and developed a wide range of practical skills to use," he said. "Now I plan to earn my fire certification at the Ohio Fire Academy and begin serving my community in Northeast Ohio."
And Jerry Napier of Lima, Ohio is just beginning his career as a first responder and looking forward to putting the training to work.
"This training gave me the opportunity to work through real-world scenarios that I know will be helpful in my career as a paramedic," he said.
