Published: 01-13-2025 | Category: Troop D

Louisiana State Police Detectives continue the investigation into the deputy-involved shooting that occurred on Louisiana Highway 99 north of Welsh on January 10, 2025. The suspect was identified as 44-year-old Mark Buller of Iowa, LA.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's Office deputy stopped to assist Buller, who was walking on LA Hwy 99 in inclement weather and a poorly lit area. During the encounter, a physical altercation occurred. Buller was able to gain possession of the deputy's Taser and use it against him before attempting to take the deputy's patrol car. The deputy then discharged his service weapon, but did not strike Buller.
Responding deputies and officers soon arrived on the scene and were able to take Buller into custody without further incident. Both the deputy and Buller were brought to area hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries that were received during the altercation.
This investigation remains active and ongoing.
