Committee Advances Amato Bill to Slash Transportation Costs for Veterans

Carmen Amato Posted on October 01, 2026

The Senate Transportation Committee advanced bipartisan legislation sponsored by Senator Carmen Amato, Jr. (R-Ocean) and Senator Angela McKnight (D-Hudson) that would cut toll costs by 50% for veterans using NJ E-Z Pass on the NJ Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, and Atlantic City Expressway.

The bill, S-4464, would require the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and South Jersey Transportation Authority to maintain the discount programs for vehicles that are registered in New Jersey, owned or leased by a veteran, and linked to an active E-Z Pass account.

"For the nearly 285,000 veterans who call New Jersey home, tolls can add up quickly for those commuting to work, traveling for doctor appointments, or making the drive to spend time with family," said Senator Amato. "This bill is a simple way to recognize their sacrifice by making those everyday trips affordable."
