Grassley Welcomes Announcement of Assistant Attorney General for Fraud

WASHINGTON - Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) today issued a statement regarding the Trump administration's announcement of a new Assistant Attorney General position focused on uprooting waste, fraud and abuse:

"As we've seen in Minnesota, government fraudsters are active, and their dishonest deeds are hurting hardworking Americans. This is welcome and timely news from the Department of Justice. I applaud the Trump administration's ongoing work to address waste, fraud and abuse, and ensure those who steal from American taxpayers are held accountable. Once President Trump selects his candidate for this important position, I look forward to leading the nominee's confirmation process in the Senate Judiciary Committee."

Background:

For over four decades, Grassley has led the charge in the Senate to root out waste, fraud and abuse. 2026 marks the 40th anniversary of Grassley's 1986 updates to the False Claims Act. To date, this landmark legislation has allowed the federal government to recover over $78 billion in taxpayer dollars that would have otherwise been lost to fraud, and saved countless more by deterring would-be fraudsters. Grassley also led successful efforts to enact the Administrative False Claims Act in 2024.
