Cary, NC - This July, Cary invites residents and visitors to celebrate National Park and Recreation Month by exploring the people, places, and programs that make Cary's park system a cornerstone of community life. With more than 30 parks and 20 facilities, over 100 miles of greenways, 23 years of accreditation, thousands of programs and events offered every year, there are endless opportunities to discover and enjoy.

Cary's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources (PRCR) department is joining park and recreation agencies nationwide to mark the occasion, an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). This year's theme, "The Power of Parks and Recreation," celebrates how parks and recreation bring people together through play, nature, community, belonging, and well-being.

Nationally, parks and recreation play an outsized role in community life. More than 227 million U.S. adults, or a member of their household, visited a local park or recreation facility in the past year. Roughly three in five residents say proximity to parks is a highly important factor when choosing where to live. Locally, Cary residents help support a system designed to connect people of all ages and backgrounds and enhance the quality of life across the community.

"Parks and greenways are among the most powerful tools we have for bringing people together," said PRCR Director John Collins. "Whether someone is walking a greenway, signing up for a class, or attending an event with their family, these spaces create everyday moments of connection that strengthen our entire community. Park and Recreation Month is a great reminder to get out and experience everything Cary's parks system offers."

Throughout July, Cary residents and visitors are encouraged to get out and explore the town's recreation offerings. Sign up for the PRCR newsletter to stay up to date on Park and Recreation Month happenings and year-round programming, or follow along on social media and at carync.gov/PRCRJuly.
