I am happy and honored to begin my new role as state librarian. I never imagined attaining this position when I started out in libraries as a shelver at Boise Public.
Library services have changed since those days, but the dedication of library staff to meet - and exceed - the needs of their communities has not. Whether it provides their town's only meeting space or 24/7 Wi-Fi access, or offers resources and assistance not found elsewhere, the library is truly the heart of the community.
As I navigate my new responsibilities and those of our ICfL staff, we will ensure that our commitment to serving, supporting, and championing Idaho libraries is as strong as ever.
Speaking of assisting libraries, in 2026, the Idaho State Library / Idaho Commission for Libraries will have been doing it for 125 years. The Columbian Club started the first traveling library in Idaho in 1899. Two years later, in 1901, the Idaho State Library was created. We will share more about our history throughout 2026, and we'll kick things off in January with a special logo commemorating the ICfL's 125th anniversary.
