The Foreign Ministry reports that this weekend, the Director General of Consular Protection welcomed at the Mexico City International Airport the Mexican citizen who was aboard one of the vessels intercepted by Israeli authorities on the high seas in violation of the principle of freedom of navigation. Mexico's Ambassador to Greece, Alejandro García Moreno, assisted her there, and in coordination with Consul Alberto Fierro Garza in Istanbul, she was repatriated to Mexico to be reunited with her family.
Mexico thanks the Greek and Turkish authorities for their help with the repatriation of our citizen. She will receive all necessary support, with full respect for her fundamental rights.
Mexico's diplomatic missions in the region are in contact with the other seven citizens who were not intercepted, all of whom are reported to be well. The Foreign Ministry is also in ongoing, direct contact with their families.
Through diplomatic channels, Mexico has conveyed to Israel in the strongest terms that the rights of all crewmembers must be respected, their physical and mental wellbeing guaranteed, and the right of free passage upheld. Mexico reiterates its profound and forceful objection to the interception of the flotillas, an act that constitutes a flagrant violation of the fundamental principles of international law, including international human rights law, and one that cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.
