The Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) has hosted a press conference at the Mount Lavinia Hotel to announce the 9th Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Media Summit on Climate Action and Disaster Prevention (CADP 2025). Scheduled for 25-27 November 2025 in Colombo, the Summit will run under the theme "Building Resilience Through Media: For a Cleaner, Greener, and Safer Tomorrow." It will bring together media leaders, climate and disaster response authorities, scientists, and civil society to accelerate collective action for resilience across the Asia-Pacific region.
Since 2014, the ABU has convened this annual Media Summit to equip broadcasters with knowledge, tools, and partnerships to respond effectively to climate-related hazards and disasters. These challenges are escalating across the region, threatening lives, infrastructure, and sustainable development. In this urgent context, media plays a critical role as a lifeline-delivering timely warnings, educating the public, and driving meaningful action toward sustainability.
Building on the ABU's Media Saving Lives initiative, this year's Summit will launch the new Disaster Preparedness and Response Plans (DPRP) Model, jointly developed by ABU and UNESCO, alongside collaborations with Green Movement Sri Lanka (GMSL). A key highlight will be the Gala of the ABU Together for People, Planet, Peace (T4P) Media Awards on 26 November 2025, celebrating outstanding productions that inspire climate action, peacebuilding, and resilience.
