McKinney Community Development Corporation Awards 2025 Retail Development Infrastructure Grants

Grants totaling more than $33,000 awarded to Cotton Mill and Samaritan Inn's InnStyle Resale Shop

McKINNEY, Texas (April 4, 2025) - The McKinney Community Development Corporation (MCDC) has awarded Retail Development Infrastructure Grants to two local projects to enhance accessibility, safety, and the long-term economic vitality of landmark retail properties in McKinney.

These grants are part of MCDC's ongoing commitment to support infrastructure improvements that strengthen the city's commercial corridors and promote sustainable growth. Retail Development Infrastructure Grants provide up to $50,000 per project with a required 25% match and are available for exterior infrastructure enhancements that support new or expanding retail businesses.

"We're proud to partner with organizations that are making critical upgrades to improve the safety, functionality, and appeal of their retail spaces," said MCDC Board Chair Angela Richardson-Woods. "These infrastructure investments benefit not only the businesses but the surrounding community and local economy as a whole."

Cotton Mill | $23,745 awarded

To improve pedestrian safety and access, a new sidewalk with security lighting will be constructed to connect two parking lots, offering direct and safe access to retail shops. Currently, visitors must walk in the street or cut through event areas to reach retail destinations.

Samaritan Inn (InnStyle Resale Shop) | $9,450 awarded

A wrought iron fence will be installed around the perimeter of the resale shop, which is a vital revenue source for the Samaritan Inn. The fencing will enhance security for shoppers, staff, and volunteers, deter vandalism, illegal dumping, and loitering, and improve the site's appearance, safety, and revenues.

Retail Development Infrastructure Grants are available for properties within the Downtown McKinney Cultural District and other key gateway locations. Eligible improvements include upgrades to:

  • Sewer, water, electric, and gas utilities
  • Fire suppression systems
  • Drainage, walkways, parking, and fencing
  • Site improvements tied to infrastructure changes
