Ascension has been named the fifth largest health system in the United States by Becker's Healthcare in its 2026 ranking of the nation's largest health systems by number of hospitals.
The recognition reflects the continued Mission-driven growth and focus on expanding access in the communities we serve. Ascension will continue to invest in ways that help meet patients where they are and provide the right care in the right settings at the right time.

This recognition comes as Ascension continues a multiyear operational transformation launched in 2022 to strengthen long-term sustainability. Ascension has optimized and rightsized its portfolio from 139 hospitals to 90 wholly owned or consolidated facilities, enabling reinvestment in core markets and greater operational stability.
In a recent interview with Becker's Healthcare, Ascension's Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy and Growth Officer, Amber Sims, outlined how these deliberate choices have reshaped Ascension's approach to growth. The system has expanded beyond a hospital-centric model, investing in ambulatory, virtual, and community-based care while pursuing select partnerships and acquisitions aligned with its mission. Together, these actions reflect a data-driven strategy designed to support both national scale and long-term community impact.
