Create or update your Digital Accessibility Passport

Estimated read time: 1:42

From June 1 to 5, Defence recognizes National AccessAbility Week (NAAW) as a time to celebrate the important contributions of persons with disabilities and to promote accessibility and inclusion in the workplace.

To support these goals, the Department of National Defence (DND) encourages the use of tools such as the Accessibility Passport, which helps foster a more inclusive and barrier-free workplace. The Passport helps public service employees facing workplace barriers document and share relevant information about those barriers, as well as solutions to address them. The Passport belongs to the employee, moving with them throughout their federal public service career, and helps maintain consistent workplace accommodations as the employee's situation changes.

Employees can access the Digital Passport through the myAccessibleWorkplace application in the TBS Applications Portal (TAP)

Employees who have already completed a Passport agreement can continue using the original Word document format, if preferred. However, the digital version of the Passport available through the TAP has multiple benefits:

  • 4 easy steps: A pathway with 4 simple steps for employees to securely document their information and share it with their manager, colleagues, or Disability Management Advisor.
  • Controlled sharing: Shares only what the employee wishes with their manager and/or colleagues in their organization.
  • Common language: A catalogue that offers employees and managers a common language for situations, barriers, and solutions-this feature provides consistency in the way the information is documented.

DND encourages all public service employees who need, or may benefit from, adaptive tools or support measures to complete a Passport and discuss it with their manager. Managers are encouraged to promote the Passport, to engage in open, solutions-oriented dialogue, and to promptly implement the agreed-upon solutions.

For questions about the myAccessibleWorkplace application, please contact the Office of Disability Management (ODM).

Take this opportunity to complete your self-ID!

The Modernized Self-ID questionnaire is also available in TAP. This questionnaire is a foundation for the work that DND does or needs to do in support of Persons with Disability and all members of an employment equity group. Part A is a mandatory requirement, and we strongly encourage all public servants to complete Part B (questionnaire) which allows the department to better understand the make-up of its workforce and how we provide programs and services to better support it.
