Uzbekistan accedes to the Singapore Convention on Mediation

VIENNA, 2 September (UN Information Service) - Uzbekistan has acceded to the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation, also known as the "Singapore Convention on Mediation." The accession by Uzbekistan was effected on 28 August 2026. Uzbekistan becomes the twenty-fourth State party to the Singapore Convention on Mediation, which will enter into force for Uzbekistan on 28 February 2027.

The accession took place during Singapore Convention Week, held in Singapore from 24 to 28 August 2026. The week also featured the UNCITRAL Academy, which brought together government representatives, legal practitioners, mediators, academics and other stakeholders to discuss mediation. The UNCITRAL Academy included a Government Capacity-Building Workshop with a session on the Singapore Convention on Mediation around the world.

The Singapore Convention on Mediation facilitates international trade and promotes mediation as an alternative and effective method of resolving commercial disputes by providing a harmonized legal framework for the right to invoke international settlement agreements resulting from mediation as well as for their enforcement.

The Convention is open for signature, ratification, acceptance, approval or accession by States and regional economic integration organizations. Up-to-date information on the Convention and its status is available on the UNCITRAL website.
