PANGKALPINANG -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk continues to reaffirm its commitment to improving tin mining governance through various strategic initiatives. One of these efforts was organizing a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Tin Mining Governance involving law enforcement officials at Graha Timah Pangkalpinang on Tuesday (10/3/2026).

The FGD was attended by Deputy Chief of the Bangka Belitung Regional Police Brigadier General Pol. Murry Mirranda, President Director of PT TIMAH Restu Widiyantoro, as well as stakeholders and employees of PT TIMAH.

The FGD, organized by PT TIMAH in collaboration with the Indonesian National Police, featured several speakers from police institutions. Among them were the Director of Vital Object Security (Dirpamobvit) of Korsabhara Baharkam Polri Brigadier General Pol. Suhendri and Senior Investigator of the Directorate of Certain Crimes (Dit Tipidter) of the Criminal Investigation Agency of the National Police (Bareskrim Polri), Fredya Tri Harbakti Imameza, who discussed the security management system for National Vital Objects (Obvitnas) and Certain Objects (Obter).

Also present as speakers were the Director of Special Criminal Investigation of the Bangka Belitung Regional Police AKBP Nanang Haryono and the Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Bangka Belitung Regional Police AKBP Muhammad Rivai, who presented material on handling mining-related crimes and their impact on the stability of the tin industry.

In his remarks, the President Director of PT TIMAH expressed appreciation to the Indonesian National Police for their support and assistance in efforts to improve tin mining governance within the company so that it can provide optimal contributions to community welfare and support national development.

"We would like to thank the police for helping us improve tin governance at PT TIMAH. Today we have the opportunity to learn directly from law enforcement officers who have years of experience dealing with legal issues so that we can carry out our activities in the right way," he said.

According to him, the tin sector has experienced ups and downs over the years, and many aspects still need improvement, especially to ensure that all mining activities run in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

"For years, tin governance has experienced fluctuations and many aspects need to be improved. Therefore, we continue to collaborate with various parties such as the Attorney General's Office, regional governments, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and now with the National Police," he said.

In addition to focusing on managing tin from upstream to downstream, PT TIMAH has also begun developing the potential of associated minerals or rare earth elements, which are considered to have greater economic value.

"For decades we have processed ore into tin, but within it there are other minerals with very high value. This is what we are now beginning to develop so that the contribution to the country can increase further," he explained.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief of the Bangka Belitung Regional Police Brigadier General Pol. Murry Mirranda said that the Bangka Belitung Islands Province is one of the largest tin-producing regions in Indonesia, making this sector a key pillar of the local economy.

However, he reminded that mining activities also carry the potential for environmental damage if they are not managed properly.

Therefore, he emphasized the importance of collaboration between security forces, companies, the government, and the community in maintaining the stability of the tin industry while ensuring that its management is carried out in accordance with regulations.

According to him, the FGD is expected to produce various strategic recommendations to strengthen the security system for national vital objects, improve risk mitigation, and prevent potential security disturbances in the tin mining sector.

"Through this activity, we hope to strengthen synergy and coordination between the police, company management, and all stakeholders in improving the security of national vital objects," he said.

He also hopes that this discussion forum will be able to formulate solutions to various issues in the mining sector, including addressing environmental damage and the widespread illegal tin mining activities in the Bangka Belitung region.

The Deputy Police Chief also appreciated PT TIMAH's initiative in organizing the event as part of a joint effort to maintain security stability and the sustainability of the tin industry's operations.

"Hopefully this activity will produce concrete steps that will be beneficial for improving the security of national vital objects within the jurisdiction of the Bangka Belitung Regional Police," he concluded.

Previously, PT TIMAH Tbk had also organized a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Mining Governance and Partnerships as well as Technical Guidance (Bimtek), as a strategic step to improve corporate governance in collaboration with the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia. (*)
