CHANDLER, Ariz. - Bats, rats, gnats, oh my! The Vision Gallery's new exhibition "Unlovable: An Open Call Exhibition" reimagines animals that are often deemed unlovable. The show will be on display at the Vision Gallery June 13 through Aug. 15.
From the creepy to the crawly, this open call exhibition invited Arizona-based artists to submit work of animals that are often deemed "unlovable" by the public. Artists were encouraged to reimagine these creatures through unique perspectives, whether by emphasizing their beauty, strangeness, resilience or symbolic power.
About choosing what would be included, juror Daniella Napolitano said, "When I was looking through the entries, I was most interested in seeing the unique perspectives artists took while depicting 'unloved' creatures. Many show a sensitivity and beauty that I hope help viewers appreciate these animals in a new light. The works I selected show a breadth of species and media ranging from jewelry to handmade artist books."
With artwork ranging from arachnoids to marsupials, these misunderstood animals will be sure to delight and fright folks of all ages. Over 60 artists will be represented in this exhibition.
