The Carl H. Lindner College of Business will once again host the annual Project Management Institute (PMI) Summit on Saturday, Nov. 8, with a sharp focus on artificial intelligence success strategies in business.

Register for the Summit

Lindner, in collaboration with local PMI chapters Southwest Ohio and Dayton/Miami Valley, will present the 2025 summit, "Crafting the Future: Business AI Success Strategies."

Student registration is $15. Attendees can earn up to 14 Professional Development Units while engaging with industry leaders and AI experts in project management.

"The event brings together students, tenured professionals and leaders from across industries to explore how artificial intelligence is transforming the way projects are led and value is delivered," said Christopher Urbanek, president of the PMI Southwest Ohio Chapter. "It creates a collaborative space where bold ideas emerge, networks expand and project leaders shape the future together."

"Crafting the Future" will open with remarks by Lindner Dean Marianne Lewis followed by a keynote presentation by Michael Lively and Michelle Morrison, both affiliated with PMI's Southwest Ohio Chapter.

The conference will be divided into three tracks: "Business Acumen," focusing on AI literacy for business; "Ways of Working," adapting to and managing workplace changes; and "Power Skills," honing augmented leadership abilities. Ashima Sharma, founding partner at Ayuka Consulting, will deliver the closing keynote on implementing AI into project workflows.

Steven Jones is an assistant professor in Lindner's Department of OBAIS.

Among the presenters this year are Steven Jones, a Lindner assistant professor-educator of operations, business analytics and information systems (OBAIS). Jones, who is also the director of Lindner's undergraduate operations management program, will focus his session on leveraging generative AI to enhance project efficiency.

"The PMI Southwest Ohio 2025 Summit presents a unique opportunity for students to step directly into the future of business and technology," said Jones. "They'll hear from leading voices in AI, project management and business strategy, network with professionals and gain insights that bridge classroom learning to the dynamic demands of industry."

Lindner has hosted the event for many years, and student involvement continues to grow. "The PMI Summit offers students a unique opportunity to bring classroom concepts to life by seeing how they're being applied in the workplace," said Ryan Baillie, president of the Project Management Club at UC. The student organization will return to the summit as volunteers after first getting involved in 2024.

"It's a valuable chance to network with project managers and gain insights from experienced professionals," Baillie added.

Jones and Baillie will speak about the upcoming event on Bearcats Mean Business, Lindner's podcast that amplifies the school's mission of empowering business problem solvers. Listen on Oct. 15.

Rather than replacing project managers and business analytics, AI is augmenting their capabilities, enabling smarter workflows and more strategic impact. The session introduces the Cognitive Project Management for AI methodology as a structured framework to successfully manage AI-enabled projects.
