NextStar recently celebrated the grand opening of Canada's first and only commercial-scale battery manufacturing facility.
Earlier this month, the NextStar Energy EV Battery Plant in Windsor, Ontario, celebrated its grand opening. Delivered in partnership with NextStar Energy and our joint venture partner Alberici, this 4.23-million-SF, state-of-the-art facility is a significant investment in the electric vehicle supply chain and the growth of a high-skilled manufacturing workforce. Construction began in 2022 on the 240-acre greenfield site, culminating in a world-class manufacturing campus capable of producing more than 49 gigawatt-hours of battery capacity annually.
The event brought together government officials, industry leaders, and project partners to recognize the completion of Canada's first and only commercial-scale battery manufacturing facility and the collaboration that made it possible. Now fully operational, the facility has already produced more than 1 million battery cells and stands as a key part of the country's growing electric vehicle supply chain, supporting job creation, innovation, and a more sustainable future for North America's energy ecosystem.
"(The) grand opening reflects the economic momentum we are building here in Windsor. With strong investment from the federal and provincial governments and the commitments from our founding joint venture partners, we are proud to be creating long-term economic value for Canada," said NextStar Energy Chief Executive Officer Danies Lee. "At the same time, we are helping power the next generation of energy that will future-proof Canadian industry at scale. This is a unique, made-in-Canada success story and one we can all be proud of."
The project required close coordination among global partners, complex design standards, and highly specialized construction environments, including over 2 million SF of cleanroom/dry room space. Through early collaboration, thorough planning, and a shared dedication to safety and quality, the project team delivered a facility designed to support the next generation of electric vehicles and energy storage solutions.
