San Antonio Missions National Historical Park Sees 1.55 Million Visits in 2025 with Updated Traffic Counting

News Release Date:
March 24, 2026

SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio Missions National Historical Park welcomed 1.55 million recreation visits in 2025. Despite a 43-day partial government shutdown - the longest ever - the National Park Service worked to keep parks open and accessible whenever possible so visitors could continue to experience the nation's natural and historic treasures.

The 2025 visitation number shows a 21.4% increase over the previous year. In 2024, San Antonio Missions replaced four 18-year-old traffic counters with a modernized traffic counting system. The increase in visitation in 2025 is likely partially due to the increased sensitivity of the new traffic counters and more accurately reflects the park's visitation than previous year counts.

Visitors at San Antonio Missions National Historical Park can explore four beautifully preserved Spanish colonial missions their associated cultural landscape features that together tell the story of early Spanish colonial communities along the San Antonio River. Guests can walk or bike the scenic trails, enjoy ranger-led programs, and experience the park's vibrant blend of history, culture, and nature. The park offers opportunities for learning, reflection, and connection as visitors discover an enduring landscape at Texas's only UNESCO World Heritage Site.

2025 Visitation Highlights

  • 1,552,510 recreation visits

  • 2,250,948 visitor hours spent in parks

Visitation figures and trends help guide how the National Park Service manages parks to ensure the best possible experience for visitors. The Visitation Statistics Dashboard on NPS.gov provides recreation visit data for every park in the U.S. for 2025 and previous years-dating back to 1979 for some parks. Of the 433 parks in the National Park System, 406 reported visitation in 2025.

With at least one in every state, national parks throughout the country provide a wide range of opportunities for recreation and inspiration for visitors of all ages.
