Chinese Consul General in Calgary Zhao Liying Attends the Lunar New Year Reception Hosted by the Government of Alberta

On February 19, 2026, Consul General Zhao Liying was invited to attend and deliver a speech at the Lunar New Year Reception hosted by the Government of Alberta. The event was attended by many dignitaries including the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Ministers of Culture and Status of Women, Advanced Education, Environment and Protected Areas, Indigenous Relations, and Multiculturalism, as well as the Mayor of Calgary and city councillors, former dignitaries, and representatives of the local Chinese community.

In her speech, Consul General Zhao stated that Prime Minister Carney's recent visit to China had yielded fruitful results, and the leaders of the two countries reached important consensus on advancing the China-Canada new Strategic Partnership. She noted that China and Alberta have a solid foundation and great potential for cooperation, and the Chinese Consulate General stands ready to work with Alberta to translate the consensus into actions, deliver more tangible cooperation outcomes, and bring benefits to the people of both countries. Consul General Zhao also expressed gratitude to the Government of Alberta for its long-term support for the development of the local Chinese community, and encouraged overseas Chinese to continue to play a bridging role in promoting exchanges and cooperation between the two sides.
