Larson Calls for Renewed Negotiations to End Trump Health Care Crisis

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) called for renewed negotiations on health care after Trump Administration officials announced they were consideringan extension of Affordable Care Act tax credits. If Republicans allow these credits to expire, 19,000 CT-01 residentswill see premiums spike, and the average family of four will see their annual costs rise by $2,571.

"On Donald Trump's watch, 15 million Americans are about to lose their health care, and millions more are seeing their costs skyrocket," said Larson. "I even heard from a constituent whose premium costs are going to exceed what he pays for his mortgage! After two months of President Trump telling Congressional Republicans to 'not even bother' negotiating, leading us into the longest-ever government shutdown, it appears he and his top officials may have found the light. If the President and my Republican colleagues are actually serious about lowering costs, Democrats have a plan on the table to reverse these health care cuts. Leader Jeffries said it well when he pointed out that we only need a handful of Republicans to join us, just as they did with the Epstein Files. Without action, the average household in my district will have to pay $2,571 more for their premiums - and many of the districts my colleagues represent will see even bigger price hikes. Wake up, Republicans!"

After Republicans passed their dirty funding 'deal'that does nothing to lower health care costs but includes millions in taxpayer-funded payouts to eight Republican Senators, House Democrats launched a discharge petitionon their plan to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits. Only four Republicans need to join Democrats to force a vote in the House of Representatives.
