Armanini Proposes Sales Tax Holiday

Mar. 25, 2026

HARRISBURG - Sales tax would be temporarily exempt on purchases of shoulder pads, gloves, helmets and other football equipment under a new proposal from Rep. Mike Armanini (R-Clearfield/Elk).

Armanini will join with other House Republicans to introduce a package of bills that would establish tax holidays on a variety of goods and utilities. His proposal for football equipment would extend from July 1 to Dec. 31 in Pennsylvania to recognize Pittsburgh's role as host of the 2026 NFL Draft.

"Hopefully a tax holiday could give financial relief to families looking to outfit young players, particularly because those players' sizes and needs change so frequently," Armanini said.

The proposal for football equipment is estimated to save shoppers significantly in sales tax. Together, the package of bills, if enacted, could save consumers in excess of $3 billion.
