On 10 September 2026, Ms. Somrudee Poopornanake, Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, met with H.E. Mr. Uladzimir Baravikou, Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to Thailand, resident in Hanoi, to discuss ways to further promote bilateral relations and cooperation between Thailand and Belarus across various areas.

Both sides exchanged views on ways to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly by exploring opportunities to expand economic cooperation, including the early commencement of negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement between Thailand and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). To this end, the Thai side sought Belarus's support, as a member of the EAEU.

In addition, both sides discussed the convening of the 2nd Political Consultations as well as the 1st meeting of the Joint Trade and Economic Commission. These mechanisms would serve as important platforms for following up and advancing bilateral cooperation.
