WASHINGTON, DC - Senior members of the Trump Administration are escalating verbal attacks on judges and the federal judiciary. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, who previously proclaimed Americans "are living under a judicial tyranny," recently declared that a Trump-appointed judge is guilty of 'legal insurrection' for issuing a temporary restraining order against Trump's deployment of National Guard troops to Portland, Oregon.
Today, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) warned that there must be bipartisan condemnation of such irresponsible rhetorical attacks on judges.
Reed stated:
"Mr. Miller's rising hostility toward federal judges is beyond the pale and should be troubling to all. The Trump Administration's pattern of intimidation toward those who show any legal restraint against executive overreach endangers individuals and the rule of law itself. Our system of government depends on checks and balances and there must be a bipartisan commitment to the rule of law and the safety of judges."
Over the years, President Donald Trump himself has engaged in a troubling pattern of rhetorical attacks on judges and the courts for rulings he disagrees with.
