Graduates to be celebrated Dec. 13 at UW-Oshkosh Midyear Commencement

Hundreds of University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh students will walk across the stage Dec. 13 to receive their degrees in the 61st Midyear Commencement.

The graduates, along with their families and friends, will gather for a 10 a.m. ceremony in Kolf Sports Center, 785 High Ave., to participate in a celebration honoring the Class of 2025. The ceremony will be the first for Chancellor Manohar Singh, who began his role July 1.

Graduating class speaker:

Jacob Heron of Waukegan, Illinois, graduates with a bachelor's degree in information systems and an emphasis in computer science.

During his time at UWO, Heron explored entrepreneurship through ventures including TooSilly and the Titan Accelerator Program and completed internships with the Aspen School District, Alliance Laundry Systems and Faith Technologies Incorporated. He also contributed to a cybersecurity vulnerability audit for Haviland Hearing Aids, Inc. and created basic applications using artificial Intelligence.

Heron is a member of the Honors College and participated in a study-abroad experience in London.

After graduation, Heron will begin his career as a level one systems engineer at Faith Technologies Incorporated in Menasha.

Commencement address:

Kazeem Akinyele is an associate professor of accounting in the UW-Oshkosh School of Business. He teaches courses in managerial accounting, cost management and advanced cost management and serves as the accounting discipline coordinator and faculty adviser for accounting majors.

Akinyele's research focuses on judgment and decision-making in managerial accounting and has appeared in academic journals including Behavioral Research in Accounting; Accounting & Finance; Accounting and the Public Interest; Accounting Forum; and Issues in Accounting Education.

The ceremony will be live streamed for family members and friends who cannot attend. The graduates will join more than 110,000 in the UWO alumni family.
