APCO Releases Updated Public Safety Telecommunicator 1 Course

Alexandria, Va. - The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International has recently launched an update to the APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator (PST) 1. This course provides a comprehensive curriculum to establish the core knowledge, practical techniques and critical thinking required to confidently manage emergency and non-emergency calls. Delivery of the PST 8th Edition course begins on September 30 and is now open for registration.

Two versions of the updated course are available: PST 1, 8th Edition, and PST 1, 8th Edition Instructor. The updated PST 1 course features new and expanded content that reflects the changing role of today's public safety telecommunicators. Enhancements include new content on communication skills, caller mental health response, resource awareness, modern technologies and updated call classifications. The updated content also includes expanded liability topics and new content focused on the modern emergency communications center (ECC) workplace and the importance of telecommunicator wellness.

Those certified in the PST 7th Edition may register for the PST 8th Edition Update course or the PST 8th Edition Instructor Update course to meet recertification requirements. Learn more.
