APCIA Launches "My Resilient Home" - A New Tool to Help Homeowners Adapt and Live with Wildfire
SACRAMENTO, CA. - The American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA) today announced the launch of My Resilient Home , a new online resource designed to empower homeowners with simple, practical steps they can take to strengthen their homes against wildfire and reduce their risk of devastating losses. The site provides easy-to-use guidance, interactive tools, and the latest resiliency information to help families protect what is often their most valuable asset -their home.
Developed to meet growing challenges around insurance availability and affordability, My Resilient Home translates the latest wildfire science into actionable steps homeowners can take right now. The site features home hardening tips, consumer friendly explanations, current news, and an interactive quiz that helps residents understand their home's vulnerabilities and how to fix them.
"Homeowners are looking for trustworthy, accessible guidance on how to make their properties more resilient," said Karen Collins, APCIA vice president, property & environmental. "My Resilient Home delivers exactly that-clear, practical steps families can take to live with wildfire risk while helping protect their home, their community, and their financial security."
A Key Tool for Reducing Losses and Improving Insurability
With wildfires intensifying across many western states, mitigation is a critical strategy for preventing home loss. Strengthening a property against wildfire not only improves safety-it also expands options for obtaining insurance.
"Taking proactive steps to harden a home makes it more likely to survive a wildfire, reduces damage severity, and supports a more stable insurance market overall," said Collins.
In its initial phase, the website focuses on wildfire resilience, but APCIA will continue to expand the platform with guidance for additional natural hazards and more regions across the country. The website is an important component of APCIA's broader effort to advance community mitigation and strengthen the industry's role in promoting resilience nationwide.
A Practical First Step for Every Homeowner
"By taking small, meaningful actions-like clearing defensible space, replacing wood fences with metal and hardening roofs and vents-homeowners can dramatically improve their home's ability to withstand ignition from wildfire," Collins noted. " My Resilient Home is built to make these steps straightforward, accessible, and achievable for every family."
Homeowners, realtors, builders, homeowners associations, and community leaders are encouraged to explore the new website at https://my-resilient-home.com/.
