(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Yesterday, in a vote of 34-28, the House Appropriations Committee voted to approve its Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Labor, Health, and Human Services, Education & Related Agencies Appropriations (Labor HHS) Bill.
Once again, the House bill takes aim at contraceptive access and sexual health information by proposing to eliminate the Title X Family Planning Program (Title X) and the evidence-based Teen Pregnancy Prevention (TPP) Program. The bill also increases funding for abstinence-only until marriage programs and maintains harmful abortion riders, including the Hyde Amendment, and further undermines access to health care.
In response, Power to Decide Interim Co-CEO and Vice President, Policy and Strategic Partnerships, Rachel Fey, issued the following statement:
"At a time when more and more people are struggling to afford basic necessities, and millions are facing the imminent loss of their health care coverage, the House Appropriations Committee's bill doubles down on that cruelty by eliminating programs people depend on for reproductive health care and information.
"All of this is wildly out of step with what people need and want. More than 90% of Americans support access to contraception, and want policymakers to make it easier, not harder, to obtain. We thank our congressional champions for their efforts to undo the harm of this bill, and we urge Congress to finalize funding bills that increase, not undermine, access to contraception and reproductive well-being.
"Power to Decide will continue to provide trusted resources like Bedsider.org and AbortionFinder.org so that despite these attacks, people have the reproductive health care information they need, free from stigma, bias, and political interference."
