Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Bright New Gems

13 Feb 2026

A one-day-only pop-up exhibition, being held on 3 March 2026 11am to 4pm, at the Goldsmiths' Centre in London brings together more than 50 Bright New Gems alumni from across the two decades to showcase their recent works - some of which have never been seen before. This must-see exhibition, funded by the Goldsmiths' Foundation, is free to attend, and features works from an inspirational mix of craftspeople from across the industry - talented new names as well as established designers including Ruth Tomlinson, Pippa Small, Alexandra Jefford, and Fernando Jorge.

Founded as a not-for-profit industry mentoring and career development programme for graduating BA and MA jewellery designers from UK-based courses, Bright New Gems has established itself as one of the leading mentoring initiatives in the jewellery sector. The programme has played a significant role in supporting the best in emerging talent as they transition from education into professional practice.

Susi Smither, Judge and founder of The Rock Hound, comments,

"Part of the joy of the Bright New Gems mentoring programme is watching our graduate jewellers flourish, so we thought what better way to celebrate 20 years than to bring them together for a unique exhibition. With over fifty jewellers from all twenty years participating, it's not only a chance to look at them as individual creatives but to take a broad appreciation of the impact this amazing programme brings to industry."

Panel Conversation

The exhibition closes with an engaging panel conversation - Turning Points: 20 Years of New Voices in Jewellery, from 6pm to 7.30pm. Judge and founder of The Jewellery Editor, Maria Doulton, will talk with three Bright New Gems alumni - Imogen Belfield, Katy Tromans and Makila Nsika - as they reflect on the moments that shaped their careers, exploring the pivotal decisions, challenges, collaborations and opportunities that have defined their journeys from graduation to professional practice.

Liz Olver, Bright New Gems Judge explains,

"The panel conversation, Turning Points: 20 Years of New Voices in Jewellery, is about honesty rather than hindsight. By bringing together Bright New Gems alumni at very different stages of their careers, we're creating space to talk openly about the decisions, doubts and moments of recalibration that shape a creative life. It's a rare opportunity to reflect on how careers really unfold, not in straight lines, but through experience, resilience and time."
