5 Things for September from Monterey County Free Libraries

1. Summer is over, the kids are in school, and September is Library Card sign-up month. Your library is a place that welcomes all and provides programs and services all year round to help community members learn, grow, play or relax.Make sure you visit your library to get a library card!
2. Starting September 15 through October 15, we celebrate Hispanic or Latino Heritage Month when we recognize and highlight authors with Latino heritage. Look on our Facebook and Instagram page every Tuesday to see the highlighted author of the week and check out some of their books. Also look for displays in the branches for Latino Heritage Month. 3. September 8 is International Literacy Day! Celebrated since 1967, this day reminds policy makers and the public of the critical importance literacy plays in creating a more just, peaceful and sustainable society. MCFL has a vibrant adult literacy program pairing volunteer tutors with adult learners who strive to improve their literacy skills, contributing to the improvement of our community as a whole. 4. Our resource of the month for September is Value Line. The Value Line company researches the performance of stocks, mutual funds, options and securities to help users make informed decisions with their investments. To access this resource, visit one of our branch libraries and ask the staff. This resource is available at any branch library, in-library use only.
5. Happy Anniversary Seaside Library! On September 6, 2025, from 1-3 pm the Seaside Library will host its 50^th anniversary in the Gordon R. Forrest Library Building, part of the City of Seaside Campus. The branch opened its doors at 550 Harcourt Ave, on August 25, 1975. We will celebrate with cake and fun activities. Put on your bell bottoms and join the fun! The community is invited!

In recognition of Labor Day, Seaside Branch and the Administrative offices will be closed on Monday, September 1, 2025. All branch libraries will be closed on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
