Traffic Advisory: New Signal Now Active

The Marion County Office of the County Engineer has installed a new traffic signal at the intersection of Southwest 43rd Street Road and Southwest 40th Avenue in Ocala.

The signal has been operating in flash mode while final timing adjustments were made and is now fully operational.

Drivers on SW 43rd Street Road and SW 40th Avenue will now encounter fully operational red, yellow, and green lights with turn arrows responsive to cameras at the intersection. Drivers should yield to pedestrians, bicyclists, or vehicles already in the intersection and ensure it is clear before continuing.

This signal is part of the county's ongoing SW 49th Avenue Corridor project, which includes a new multi-modal roadway connecting SW 95th Street to the SW 42nd Street flyover, an expansion of County Road 484 into a four-lane divided road to SW 18th Street, and a four-lane divided roadway from Marion Oaks Trail to SW 95th Street. For more information on this project, visit Engage.MarionFL.org/SW49thAve.

This project is funded in part by the county's Penny Sales Tax with construction beginning earlier this year. Behind the scenes, the project also includes more than 9,000 feet of new stormwater piping to ensure proper drainage and protect both the roadway and surrounding properties.
