Free Comic Book Day Returns to Sacramento This Saturday
Sacramento's comic and anime community has something big to look forward to this weekend.
On Saturday, May 2, 2026, Sac Comics & Anime is hosting its annual Free Comic Book Day event at its location on Bradshaw Road. Known for drawing strong local turnout, this event brings together collectors, families, and fans for a full day centered around comics, art, and community.
For those who have attended before, you already know. For those who have not, this is the one to plan ahead for.
What to Expect
Free Comic Book Day is exactly what it sounds like. Attendees will have access to a selection of free comic books, while supplies last. Beyond that, the event expands into a full in-store and outdoor experience.
Here is what will be happening throughout the day:
Free Comics
A wide range of titles available at no cost, giving both new and longtime fans something to take home.
Special Guest Appearances (11am to 2pm)
This year's event is headlined by two creators with major industry credentials:
Darick Robertson
Co-creator and original artist of The Boys, the comic series that became the hit show on Amazon Prime. His work also includes Transmetropolitan and runs on Wolverine and Justice League. If you've watched The Boys, you're looking at one of the key people behind it.
Brandon McKinney
Known for his work on Batman, Detective Comics, and multiple DC titles, McKinney has been a consistent contributor to some of the most recognizable characters in comics. His work spans across major storylines within the DC Universe.
Huge In-Store Sale
Discounts across comics, collectibles, and merchandise.
Back Lot Swap Meet
An outdoor setup where vendors and collectors will be buying, selling, and trading items. This portion typically draws strong participation and adds to the overall event atmosphere.

Why This Event Matters
Events like this do more than bring people into a store. They create consistent foot traffic, activate the surrounding area, and support local businesses by giving the community a reason to show up in person.
Free Comic Book Day in particular has become one of the most reliable retail-driven events nationwide, and locations that execute it well see strong engagement from both returning customers and new visitors.
Sac Comics & Anime has built a reputation for delivering a high energy, well attended version of this event, making it a standout within the Sacramento market.
Plan Ahead
Based on past turnout, this is not a casual drop-in event. Inventory is limited, and attendance builds quickly throughout the day.
Arriving early is recommended if you want the best selection of free comics and the full experience.
If you are looking for something to do in Sacramento this weekend, this is one of the most active and community driven events taking place.
